Black Sox drop a pair in Escanaba
|
The Cambrian Nissan Midget Black Sox dropped a pair of games in Escanaba on Tuesday night.

The Cubs came back in the sixth inning when Tony Peacock singled in a run before the ball was bobbled in centre field, allowing the second run to score. The Black Sox loaded the bases in the top of the seventh with two outs but couldn’t cash in the tying run.
In game two, the Black Sox again jumped out to an early lead when Jake Yukich singled in Nick Moon in the opening inning. The Cubs went on to scored three runs in the fourth inning and two more in the sixth to win game two 5-1 and complete the sweep.

Sox split a pair with Traverse City
|
Untimely errors led to the Cambrian Nissan Black Sox splitting a double header with the Traverse City Rockets on Sunday.
The Black Sox committed four errors in the opening game, leading to a 4-3 Rockets victory and spoiling a solid pitching performance from Jake Yukich. In game two, the Black Sox rode a strong performance on the mound from Andrew Toni to an 11-1 victory.
“I was happy with the way our guys rebounded,” said Black Sox coach Ryan Johns. “We jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first game. Unfortunately we weren’t able to keep the lead. We came back in the second game and ended up mercying them so I was very pleased with that.”
The Black Sox scored three third inning runs in the opening game but also left seven runners on base over the course of the game. Nick Moon stroked a pair of singles in the win. Kyle Diotte, with a pair of walks, and Kory Lafreniere, on errors by the Rockets defense, also reached base twice in the loss. Nick Cooper hit a homerun for the Rockets in the victory.
In the second game, Yukich reach base four times with a pair of singles and a pair of walks to help pace the Black Sox offense. Diotte also reached four times with a triple, walk, an error as well as being hit by a pitch. Wyatt Curry hit a single and a double in the win. Toni scattered four hits and two walks over the course of the victory.
“Andrew Toni pitched a very good game,” said Johns. “He was able to get ahead of hitters, allowing us to get into the dugout and get our swings offensively and score a lot of runs.”
Johns was pleased with the performances of both Yukich and Toni on the mound over the course of the day.
“I’m very pleased with both Jake and Andrew,” Johns said. “They threw strikes. Unfortunately Jake didn’t get a win out of his effort. He’s come a long way this year. Both pitchers, they’re our one and two guys, they’ve worked very hard and they deserve everything they get.”
Next action for the Black Sox will be on Tuesday night when they head to Escanaba for a double header against the Cubs.
“Escanaba’s a well-coached team. They’re an experienced team,” said Johns. “Our guys are going to have to be ready to play and I expect two strong ball games.”
After the Escanaba trip the Black Sox will be in Midland on the weekend for a tournament before returning home to face the E.U.P. Travelers on July 8.
