Mosquito Black Sox win Sudbury Tournament
|
The Soo Select Mosquito Black Sox defeated the Sudbury Rep Baseball Team 15-2 Sunday in the final of the Sudbury Mosquito Tournament. Winning pitchers were Owen Headrick, Josh Clark & Anthony Biocchi. Ronnie Sayers was on base all 4 times and Cameron Oliver was on base all 3 times.
In the Black Sox first game of the tournament, they beat Sudbury Toppers Pizza Pee Wee’s by the score of 19-11. Winning pitchers were Michael Wilson, Brandon Boyer, Jaret Stefanizzi & Josh Clark. Michael Wilson & Brandon Boyer were on base all 4 times.
On Saturday afternoon before the Black Sox second game against Valley East, there was a torrential downpour that lasted about an hour and the game was eventually cancelled.
Saturday night at 8:00 pm the field dried up and the Black Sox played their first ever “night game” under the lights against the Sudbury Rep Team. The Black Sox played a tremendous game and beat Sudbury 20-4. Winning pitchers were Anthony Biocchi & Owen Headrick. The Black Sox ended up with 15 hits and headed straight to the finals.
The Mosquito Black Sox now head to Waterloo, Ontario to compete in the Ontario Provincial Championships starting on Friday afternoon against the defending All-Ontario “A” Champions London Nationals. |

Mosquito Black Sox sweep Sudbury Selects
|
The Soo Select Mosquito Black Sox took all 3 games from the Sudbury Mosquito Selects this past weekend at Sinclair Yards.
In Game 1 on Saturday, the Black Sox beat Sudbury 11-8. Anthony Biocchi, Michael Wilson and Owen Headrick pitched for the Sox.
In Game 2 on Saturday, the Black Sox beat Sudbury 15-6. Owen Headrick, Brandon Boyer and Joel Soltys pitched for the Sox.
In Game 3 on Sunday, the Black Sox completed the 3 game sweep by beating Sudbury in a shootout by the score of 23-15. Pitching for the Black Sox were Cameron Oliver, Jaret Steffanizzi, Ronnie Sayers, David Dupuis & Gage Czop.
The Mosquito Black Sox are competing in an Invitational Tournament in Sudbury this weekend.

Soo Selects Mosquitos win playoff championship
|
The Soo Selects Mosquito Black Sox capped off a very successful Pee Wee season by winning the Pee Wee playoff championship on Friday night. They defeated Pioneer Construction by the score of 12-5. Anthony Biocchi and Owen Headrick were the winning pitchers. The Mosquito Black Sox were unbeaten in the playoffs going 4-0 and their overall Pee Wee record for the year was 18-2-1. The Mosquito Black Sox won the Mid-season Tournament, the regular season championship and now the Playoff championship.
Some of the upcoming action for the Mosquito's is August 16 & 17 when they host Sudbury for 3 games, August 23 & 24 when they play in an Invitational Tournament in Sudbury and August 29, 30 & 31 when they play in the Provincials in Waterloo, Ontario.
Team members are: Anthony Biocchi, Owen Headrick, Brandon Boyer, Michael Wilson, Cameron Oliver, Gage Czop, Colin Malcolm, Ronnie Sayers, Joel Soltys, Jaret Stefanizzi and Josh Clark. |

2008 Selects Banquet

The Year End Banquet will be held this year at the Elks Lodge on Bay St.
The date is Wednesday August 20, 2008 at 6PM.
The cost is $20 per adult. All players and coaches are included in the registration fees. Door Prize is included and a Cash Bar will be available. Tickets will be available from Team Managers. |
