LET'S PLAY BALL WITH SAULT'S OWN BLACK SOX
You are on Second Line heading towards Black Road, you look over to your left and what do you see? A bunch of kids playing baseball, a sport they love, while making friends for life. One team that does an amazing job of making this happen for these kids, is the U15 Black Sox. I got a chance to speak with Shaun Mousseau, Black Sox head coach, plus some of the players about a fundraiser they are doing and why they love playing baseball.

This fundraiser is very simple, the Black Sox are selling Pino’s gift cards. The gift cards are in 25, 50, and 100 dollar increments. 10 percent of the value of the card will go straight to the Black Sox. Black Sox’s head coach Shaun Mousseau explains how the founds will be used for team swag, travel expenses, team building, and much more. Shaun also reminds us all how important it is for these kids to be a part of a team. Team work is a skill that is not just used in sports, but a skill that these kids will need in their day to day lives, as they become young adults. It is also very important for these kids to just get back to playing a game they love. Shaun reminds us about how kids need to just be kids, running around laughing with friends and having a good time. While they are having a blast, they are also getting much-needed exercise and some fresh air. Something we have not been able to do as easily, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

When I spoke with the players, they were all excited to see someone taking interest in the game they love to play. All the players told me how they just love the sport. How they loved to hit the ball trying to hit a home run or a “dinger” as they liked to call it. How much fun it is for them to run around all the bases. They also explained how important it is to be a part of a team, and how team work can make a big difference on and off the field.

If you are interested in purchasing a Pino’s gift card to help out the Black Sox, there are a few ways you can do so. You can either go to the fields on Second Line where you will find the Black Sox and their coaching staff on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 4:30-6:30 P.M. You can also reach out to Soo Minor Baseball and they can point you in the right direction. This fundraiser is set to end on Wednesday July the 28th.  Even if you can’t purchase a gift card right now, head down to the baseball field and watch this great team play a game they love. After being locked down for almost 2 years, these kids need sports, teammates, and friendship more than ever.
